Tenía este libro pendiente desde hace por lo menos un par de años， y es de esos libros que cuando lo acabas te preguntas porqué no lo leíste antes。 Tengo que reconocer que era una de esas personas que relacionaba la Edad Media con el oscurantismo y que la visión de este libro me ha sorprendido muchísimo。 El tema de las revueltas campesinas， por ejemplo， o como las mujeres eran mucho más libres que en siglos posteriores， eran parte activa de la vida social y económica y ejercían trabajos como cur Tenía este libro pendiente desde hace por lo menos un par de años， y es de esos libros que cuando lo acabas te preguntas porqué no lo leíste antes。 Tengo que reconocer que era una de esas personas que relacionaba la Edad Media con el oscurantismo y que la visión de este libro me ha sorprendido muchísimo。 El tema de las revueltas campesinas， por ejemplo， o como las mujeres eran mucho más libres que en siglos posteriores， eran parte activa de la vida social y económica y ejercían trabajos como curanderas o parteras。 Y también fueron las que más perdieron con el cambio del feudalismo al capitalismo。La autora relaciona la llegada del capitalismo con la quema de las brujas y como las mujeres fueron relegadas a su función reproductiva y de cuidados。 He puesto decenas de notas en el ebook mientas leía este libro y voy a tener que digerirlo y volver a él de nuevo。 Tengo muchas ideas revoloteando en la cabeza que no sé muy bien como expresar。También tengo que decir que mientras lo leía relacionaba lo que cuenta con el momento que vivimos ahora mismo y todo suena terriblemente familiar。 La ofensiva ahora es otra， se viste de brilli-brilli y colorines， pero es el mismo patriarcado luchando por devolvernos a las mujeres a "nuestro sitio"， da bastante miedo。 Lo recomiendo muchísimo。 。。。more

This is an indispensable read if one wants to understand the brutal roots of European colonization & capitalism。 The author successfully shows how the witch hunts in Europe is linked to a growing patriarchal state control over individuals and most of all， the female body。 It’s a harrowing reveal of the subjugation and control of the European poor by elites and how this has been transferred to its women & later its colonies。 Disturbing but powerful。

It is hard for me to express the levels of insights I have gained from reading Silvia Federici's "Caliban and the Witch: Women， the Body， and Primitive Accumulation。" For someone who has studied European history and literature in depth， there is much I long suspected and felt， but did not see the scholarly research to fully express it in a comprehensive way。 Federici does the research and is beyond incisive in her analyses。 The creation of the type of oppressive patriarchy we have inherited in t It is hard for me to express the levels of insights I have gained from reading Silvia Federici's "Caliban and the Witch: Women， the Body， and Primitive Accumulation。" For someone who has studied European history and literature in depth， there is much I long suspected and felt， but did not see the scholarly research to fully express it in a comprehensive way。 Federici does the research and is beyond incisive in her analyses。 The creation of the type of oppressive patriarchy we have inherited in the West is largely a product of the late Middle Ages onwards and all of the periods of history that like to see themselves as full of "reason" and "enlightened thinking" and the mechanistic world views that desacralized the body and the world， especially of women and "others"， in a way integrally linked to the rise of capitalism and the exploitation of workers， with the simultaneous villainization， exploitation and devaluing of women in every way。 The "Witch trials" helped to create European identity。 Perhaps 200，000 women were murdered in these machinations of elite control that paved the way for the rise of European settler-colonial rule over 80% of the earth's surface by the late 19th century。 And the European manifestation of these horrors was very much part of the two genocides that were foundational to white settler colonialism in the Americas。 There is a reason why the devil was recreated as a more actively malevolent force in the sixteenth-century， totally different from anything the medieval Christian mind would have recognized。 And all of those philosophers and literati we have in our mythologized "Western Civ" curriculum and literary canon were upholders of this new violent patriarchy， from Bacon （who presided over witch trials） to Descartes to Hobbes to Shakespeare （who was a sycophantic artist who kowtowed to James I of England， who himself wrote a treatise against "witches"） and on and on through every period of Western history。 None of this can be understood except in the light of class struggle， from the roots in the enclosure movement of the elite and in the peasant resistance to it， often led by women trying to save their children from starvation。 。。。more
